Hello again! I know it’s been awhile. Things have been CRAZY since my last post, in fact our lives are completely different now. We have actually moved across the world since then, and have been living in northern Italy for about 3 weeks now…but more on that later.
Although we sold our beautiful camper right before we left for Italy, it will always hold a special place in our hearts. It was such a fun place to call Home. Here are some before & after pictures of our fifth wheel remodel!
Below shows the living space before & after. We ripped out all the window treatments, replaced the carpet with laminate wood planks, and painted every square inch.
Below, the left picture shows the original tv & surround sound built-in cabinet. It was built for a box TV and was otherwise a huge waste of space, so my brilliant father created a tv mount with a hidden pantry behind it. Below the tv mount he added two open spaces for the cable box, dvd player, etc. Underneath that was more storage.
We removed the border, painted the kitchen cabinets, replaced the sink with a larger one, replaced the laminate countertops, and built a spice rack for the side of the cabinet.
Here we covered the ugly border around the slide out, painted everything, replaced the refrigerator with a standard size, replaced the laminate countertops, and got rid of the stove cover.
Below is the before & after of the dinette area. Since we had plans to build a screened porch with room for a dining room table, we had no use for the one inside. Instead, my father build us more kitchen cabinets! We decided to install drawers and they were perfect for storing utensils, pots, pans, and miscellaneous kitchen items. On top we had plenty of room for our coffee maker, toaster oven, kitchenmaid mixer and a bar tray. The upper cabinet you see here was taken from above the bed. It made much more sense for us to relocate it and use it for kitchen storage.
In the bathroom we just replaced the laminate counter top & painted.
In the bedroom, we were fortunate to have a pretty sizable built-in dresser. We replaced the laminate on top, painted, and ditched all the window treatments. We also added a shelf above for towel storage.
In the toilet room we just removed the border and painted! If we ended up staying here longer, we probably would have replaced the camper toilet with a standard toilet, but it really wasn’t a necessity to replace.
In the bedroom, we relocated the shelf to the kitchen, ditched all the florals, covered up the floral border, and painted everything.
Eventually we built a screened porch and deck, and even planted herbs & flowers around the border of our home. We had our porch decked out with a dining table, couch, chair, coffee table, mounted flat screen, deep freezer, washer and dryer, storage cabinet and two dog beds…so it was huge! Before Italy we moved the porch & deck off the camper, and walled it off for it to sit until we move back. When we return, we will most likely buy another camper, re-attach the porch, and start building our dream house immediately!
We really did love living in the camper, and we were sad to leave it behind. Especially since we pretty much JUST finished all our work on it and settled in when we found out we were moving. We will miss our tiny home, but I hope the it’s new family will love it as much as we did!
PS If you have any questions about the work that we did, please don’t hesitate to shoot me a message! I know I was disappointed with how little information I found about camper renovations during our remodel process so if I can make it a little easier for you, let me know!
